Equipment and Supplies
We recommend you bring at least two rods, a #5 or #6 wt rigged with floating line for dry fly fishing and nymphing and a #7 or #8 wt rigged with at least 10 to 15 feet of IV or V sink tip line for fishing streamers. Ideally three rods work best, one a #4 or #5 rigged for dry fly fishing, then another #6 or #7 wt rigged for nymphing and lastly a #7 or #8 wt rigged for streamer fishing.
Bring a selection of 9-12 foot leaders 2X through 5X and tippet ranging from 2X to 6X.
Alberta is barbless and we promote catch and release.
Clothing
Calgary is only one hour east of the Canadian Rockies and the weather here changes rapidly. Please come prepared for all conditions. Layered clothing made of dry fast products works best. Please bring light weight jackets large enough to layer under. Breathable materials such as Gore-Tex provide good protection from the wind and rain and are considered essential to stay warm, dry and happy. A Hat, Sunscreen and Polarized glasses are also great to have when the sun is high.
